Pussy Riot Grrrrls

After watching the Le Tigre documentary “Who Took the Bomp” it strikes me that those are a real self congratulatory bunch. And if I didn’t know any better I would have come away from the film thinking that before they came along women were not allowed to play in p-rock bands, vote or wear pants and it was their efforts alone that secured a protection for all these rights as applied to the fairer sex. Fortunately I do know better and I would guess that they do as well or a song like “Hot Topic” would never have been written. Or at least the lyrics to that song could not have been written. Oh well, the music is very good. I guess at a certain level you have to be thankful for that and suspend a desire for all the other stuff. You know like the sort of ethic of equal assessment where if a person is going to wear a “Stop Bush” outfit they should probably at some point wear a “Stop Obama” outfit because (as Walt Jameson so aptly puts it) the latter is the former on steroids.

Although I do wonder what they must think of the imprisonment of Pussy Riot. It certainly exposes their “contributions” in a rather different light than was presented in the documentary. And I know that Kathleen Hanna has claimed that “we are all pussy riot now”, or something to that effect, but that really isn’t true at all. As near as I can tell it was a comfortable life, and not a jail cell, that was wrought by Le Tigre’s embracing of these so called controversial positions.

Yeah, I haven’t seen this documentary yet but I have seen alot of interviews with Kathleen Hanna. And I always wonder what alternate universe version of the 90′s that she lived through. To hear her talk it was an oppressive era where there were no equal rights and women were beaten and oppressed. And as some one really into the scene in those days I just have to shake my fist in ritious babe rage everytime I hear this. I traveled the country going to shows. I booked shows. Hundreds of bands slept on my couch and floor. And from what I remember of riot grrrls they would show up, spit on dudes, kick them in the balls, grope their girlsfriends and then scream “sexism” when they got kicked out of the venue. Oh did I say “their” girlfriends. Uh-oh I’ve just objectified them and turned them into property. Sexism alert! Quick somebody better give Kathleen Hanna another million dollars.

But Tom Morello isnt taking any money from anyone, he’s giving them what they want and they’re paying for it. It is different when you just take it from them.

Of course Tom Morello is taking money from them, he wasn’t giving away those CD’s for free, which is how he ended up being worth 60 million dollars. But that’s ok, I know what you mean. Even if you don’t. You mean in a fair system the consumer is free to do with their money as they please. And I agree. In fact there is a name for that system. It is called capitalism. It is called the free market. But you see that isn’t the system we’ve got. We’ve got a system in which the government has tied itself to the economy and then picks the winners and losers with money it has taken from us. Kinda like how in the 1990′s the record industry would pick the winners and losers by taking over our public airwaves and keeping off anything they didn’t want to make it. And make no mistake this is the type of system Tom Morello favors. One with a strong central authority to take all the money and choices away from us.

I don’t even think this is music. I don’t like it. It is all the shenanighans. You probably only like it because you are in the one percent. This music is only for rich millionaires and oil company executives. If fact I wouldn’t be surprised to find out this Katherine Henna is actually a corporate america plant that is trying to pollute our young childrens mind with this hooligan nonsense.

Q: How many riot grrls does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None, riot grrls can’t change anything.
